1. Searches, analysis, and summary reports from national, state, and local data sources are available in an expanded format or ongoing basis. Data bases currently available include the following: a) Cancer incidence, mortality, and survival data for the US from sources such the SEER Program, the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). b) Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System (OCISS) data are accessed for non-identifying information concerning cancer incidence in Ohio. c) State mortality files are accessed for non-identifying information on cancer mortality in Ohio. d) Information regarding the number of James Cancer Hospital consultations and treated cases, specific to year, disease site, gender, etc. are accessed with the assistance of the James Cancer Registry. e) U.S. and/or Ohio information concerning cancer-related behaviors, access to health care, etc. are accessed and provided via public use data sets, such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. f) Health behavior statistics are accessed from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results [SEER], National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), and the National Health Care Survey. 2. Completion of tables for description of ethnic/racial groups and sex/gender groups to be studied are offered. Descriptions such as these are required for all OSUCCC investigators holding NIH grant applications for clinical research. Reports can include provision of county-, Central Ohio-, Ohio-, or U.S.-specific data for comparison purposes. 3. Retrieval of existing population based data to be used as the outcome measures for behavioral interventions implemented in specific counties or regions of the state is available. These data are optimal for time series or experimental research designs. |
